If anyone had told us a couple of months ago that the entire world would be on a total lockdown, it would have been dismissed as the thoughts of a pessimist who had no better things to think about. As at December 2019, we all heard of the COVID-19 that started in Wuhan, China and it felt like it was a distant ailment that we all had nothing to do with. It also seemed like it would soon pass by just like a few other Global terrors before it. Alas! It has lasted longer than most envisaged and defied the expertise of many acclaimed experts. Within a short period we are in a total global lockdown with the fears that it might last longer than earlier envisaged.
Tough as it has been for many and as uncertain as it is, life in itself needs to go on in a different kind of normal since what we had known as normal has been adversely affected. We are home, movement has been limited, most activities limited to the home space and over the internet while in a sedentary position for longer hours than usual. It is a given that during this lockdown, much as we have minimal bodily activities except around the space where we dwell, being healthy and well is something that we must choose and be absolutely intentional about. Someone posted a hilarious picture on social media that many especially women may come out the lockdown either fat or pregnant! As hilarious as it was there is definitely some element of truth.
A 19th century Scottish preacher Robert Murray M’Cheyne on his deathbed at 29 years of age was quoted to have said “God gave me a message to deliver and a horse to ride. Alas! I have killed the horse and I cannot deliver the message”. He was said to have worked so tirelessly and not cared for his health that at the young age of 29.
It’s worthy of note that during times of crisis, anxiety, fear, uncertainty people’s levels of stress often increase. Some eat more while others eat less but neither is proof of health. Inspire of the current situation, we must remember that EVIL HAS AN EXPIRY DATE! Invariably, Corona Virus also has an expiry date however it’s currently unknown. Some intentional people will come out of this season with healthier bodies whereas others might find their bodies out of control. They key word is INTENTIONAL or ON PURPOSE.
We cannot underestimate the anxiety levels of people, however, we need to appreciate in life that there are certain thins that ae not under our control. We neither anticipated, asked for nor prepared for the era of COVID-19 but it is here and the question is what are we going to do? In every bad situation there is still a glimpse of goodness as well as hope. It behoves us to look through the eye of the storm and remember THE SERENITY PRAYER.
We cannot change nor control the season but we can take care of our health in preparation for the Post-COVID season. The pertinent question now is, would we allow the lockdown season and all its attended discomforts make us make unhealthy health choices? Would we prepare to hit the road running at the end of it or would we be among those that will need time to jump start our bodies? Would we come out healthier ready to take life by storm as there’s such an expectation for the lockdown to be over? The choice is ours to make.
This is my personal decision and I hope it resonates with you
FEED THE BODY
Eat for health and not for taste especially now that our bodily activities are low. Try to fast on a few days to rest the organs and detox the system. Hydrate the body by drinking about 3 litres and preferably alkaline water per day. Fear, anxiety, stress, panic etc increases the acid levels of the body. Its been noted that alkaline water lowers anxiety levels. Take the time now to rest and to refresh the body. Take a few fasts and a whole lot of Vitamin C to boost immunity.
MOVE THE BODY
The body was made to move. A lot of public health research alludes to the fact that the body needs more movement to remain healthy as opposed to exercise. To move our bodies two recommendations would be WALKING and STRETCHING. There are incredible benefits of walking and stretching which include increased blood flow relief of stress and pressure, calmness of mind, better physical performances among other things. Don’t be caught sedentary. It increases the possibility of back pain
